Although I loved the convenience of my point-and-shoot, after two-plus years I felt it was time to graduate to a Digital SLR. I settled on the Nikon D80, and for the most part I’ve been pretty happy with it. It obviously doesn’t have as many limitations as my Canon PowerShot A95, which has enabled me to take photos in conditions that I wouldn’t have even attempted with the Canon. Having interchangeable lenses is also a pleasant change, although my wallet probably would disagree. However, one thing that I don’t like, and a subject that I constantly discuss with my friend, Jeff, is that I can rarely just grab a quick photo of someone or something. There are so many settings that can be altered and I have three lenses to choose from, not to mention the fact that the SLR is a bit more obvious and intrusive to my surroundings. Although the Canon had its restrictions, those restrictions at times really made me just take a photo instead of over think everything. There are times when I really miss that. Anyway, sobbing aside, here is my current setup:
