Bald Eagle? Yes sir or ma’am. I spotted it yesterday afternoon over the edge of the Hudson River at the 79th St. Boat Basin in Manhattan. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a Bald Eagle in New York City and it was pretty damn cool. At first glance I thought it was a vulture, but then noticing that its wings were too wide, in addition to the white tail and head, I realized what it was I was looking at. Binoculars confirmed my suspicions. It was a spectacular sight. Alas, I was a bit predisposed and my camera was in the car, so I was unable to capture a shot of it, which is a real shame because it had just left a perch and was fairly close to the ground (I’d say maybe 400-500 feet up). But I do have the memory of it, which will have to do for now. Did I mention how awesome it was to see it?
