“Admittedly a few birds did act strange, but that’s no reason to…”

The title of this post says it all. It’s a quote from the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock classic “The Birds”. For anyone not familiar with the movie, check out this clip, which gets especially hairy around the 4:00 mark…

So, I bet you’re wondering what this has to do with photography and why it’s in my blog. Well, the other day things were just winding down at work, and my co-worker called me outside to see a bunch of grackles. Let’s just say it was less like a bunch and closer to one thousand of them, if not more, no joke. I have no idea why they all decided to hang out together, how they all met up, or what exactly was going on. All I know is that they covered the ground and started going crazy flicking leaves up and foraging for food. Needless to say, it was a very surreal sight, and luckily (unlike the Bald Eagle spotting) I had my camera with me. Now they didn’t attack me, like those crows did to the children in the movie, but it was just one of those inexplicable occurrences that just makes your jaw drop as you stand in awe. This photo doesn’t do the story justice, as it is only a shot of the tail-end section of the grackle mob:
