Somehow, even with all the ongoing construction and traffic overhead, red-tailed hawks are managing to raise at least two chicks in a well-protected nest beneath the Triborough Bridge roadway. The bridge work is actually a blessing in disguise, as a temporary detour of the pedestrian pathway allows for an unobstructed (minus a chain link fence) view of the nest from above. I counted two very active chicks from that position with my binoculars, but photography was only possible from street level. Here are a few photographs from this past Thursday:
